Built by H S Grimes in 1907 at the corner of Second (2nd) and Gay Streets, it had forty-three rooms. It was "Portsmouth's first flat building" according to the Portsmouth Daily times of July 27, 1907. In 1912 the Y.W.C.A. rented it for their home.
