Full-Time Branch Associate (South Webster)
The library is accepting applications for a full-time branch associate scheduled to work 40 hours per week at the South Webster Library. This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and is responsible for providing reference and research services, including readers’ advisory, and maintenance of patron holds, and using a range of resources. This position is involved with the planning and implementation of programming for a range of ages, as well as collaborating with other library locations. In addition, the Branch Associate is assigned collection development duties and assembling displays that reflect the library’s collections.

Summary
Under the direction of the Branch Supervisor, the Branch Associate provides exceptional reference and research services, including readers’ advisory and patron holds management, utilizing a variety of resources. This role involves planning and implementing programs for diverse age groups, collaborating with other library locations, and contributing to collection development and display creation to highlight the library’s offerings.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- One to three years of work experience, preferably with children and/or in a library setting
- Ability to meet scheduled hours with rare absences, including evenings and weekends
- Valid Driver’s License, car insurance, and access to reliable transportation
- Commitment to excellence in customer service and representing the library positively
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and adaptability to new software and technology
Essential Functions
- Provide in-person and telephone assistance with reference services, readers’ advisory, circulation, online catalog instruction, and library equipment usage
- Plan, prepare, and present programming in-house, in the community, and virtually
- Contribute to collection development and maintenance
- Participate in book ordering and budget maintenance
- Process reserves and consortium items
- Create and maintain attractive department displays and organized supply areas
- Shelve materials and perform shelf reading as required
- Explain library policies and procedures to the public in a customer-friendly manner
- Provide basic IT assistance

Physical Requirements
- Manual dexterity for using keyboards and standard office equipment
- Ability to manipulate library materials (books, magazines, DVDs)
- Combination of sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, and occasional driving
- Regular lifting of items up to 50 pounds, including loading and unloading materials
- Reaching, bending, climbing, and twisting
- Ability to push full book carts over considerable distances
- Some outdoor activity; primarily in a climate-controlled environment
- Ability to talk and hear within normal ranges
- Capacity to respond to alarms and communicate safety information
- Visual acuity for sustained computer monitor use
