Colorized photo image of the second Masonic Temple in Portsmouth, built in 1906 at the northwest corner of Chillicothe and Fourth (4th) Streets. In December of 1925 it was nearly destroyed by fire. Rebuilt to only four floors, it became Kobackers Department Store in 1928. The building was vacant from 1971 until acquired by Desco Credit Union in 1981.

The post office was completed in 1891, expanded in 1914, closed in 1936, and razed in 1956. First National Bank was built in 1912 and doubled in size in about 1924. Gallia Street runs between the buildings.
Tinted image showing part of the Washington Hotel on the corner of Second (2nd) and Market Streets. Built in 1901, the Washington charged $3.00 per day in 1903 (Evans history of Scioto County.) It was known as the Milner Hotel from 1939 to 1956. In 1979 the Washington House became part of the Riverview Retirement Center along with the Biggs House.
