The first was built in 1817 on Market Street until it was razed in 1872. The second court house was erected in 1836 and was on lot No. 380 at Sixth (6th) and Court Streets, donated by Henry Brush.

Article About Dr. G. S. B. Hempstead who was a pioneer of Scioto County. Hempstead was born in 1794 and died in 1883. He dedicated much of his time to archaeology and drew maps of local Indian Mounds.
Bottom: The Gaylord Elm was named to commemorate the Gaylord Rolling Mills, Levi D. York, and York Place.
