Photo image of scanned scrapbook page. Pictured is the First Baptist Church located on the southwest corner of Gallia and Waller Streets and Play House Corner on the corner of Sixth (6th) Street. The Play House was located in part of the former Sixth (6th) Street Methodist Church building. In the 1914 City Directory, the Play House was listed as having billiards, bowling, tobacco supplies, candy, and magazines.

This second Masonic Temple in Portsmouth was built in 1906 At Chillicothe and Fourth (4th) Streets. The fire of 1925 destroyed much of the building. The second photograph is of the First National Bank Corner, the corner of Gallia and Chillicothe Streets. Buildings located in this area were the old First National Bank Building on the corner, J. F. Carr Watches and Diamonds, a shoe and hat store.
Photo image of scanned scrapbook page. Pictured is a black and white photo of John Barnes: First Soldier from Scioto County to Give his Life for his Country during the Civil War. Below the photo is information: Barnes was born May 17, 1830. He enlisted April 16, 1861 in Company G. of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Barnes was shot and killed in Vienna, Virginia. Following his death, his brother, J. C. Barnes, went and took his place in the ranks without being enlisted and without pay.
