The hatchet end was used to slit label and tax stamp, pry the nail out of a cigar box lid, then pound the lid shut. The 1922 Portsmouth City Directory lists The Ohio Valley Wholesale Co., G L McMahon, Pres., T F Stanton, Sec., I E McMahon, Treas., at 737-739 Fifth (5th) Street. Cigars, Cigarettes, Tobaccos, Smokers' Articles and Sundries.
Metal pick type opener for pressed cardboard lids on milk bottles, engraved "Pure Milk Co. Portsmouth, Ohio." "Pasteurized Milk, Cream & Skimmed Milk" on reverse. The 1920 Portsmouth City Directory lists Pure Milk Co. at the northeast corner Clay and Gallia Streets, Louis P Cranston, Manager.
