Black and White Photo Image of the Burt & Hall Clothing building at Chillicothe & Third (3rd) Streets, horse and buggies on the street. This building held various businesses and organizations before 1922 when Lewis Furniture moved in. From about 2012 to 2016 the Elite Institute of Cosmetics was located here. Shawnee State University acquired the building in 2017.

Coin token good for 10 cents issued by Burton's Exchange in 1862. On November 26, 1859 this ad appeared in the Portsmouth Times: "Burton's Exchange, formerly Hotel St. Charles, East Side Market Space, Portsmouth, Ohio. H.D. Burton will be found at the above place, ready to serve his friends and the public with Meals, on call; Oysters, Fish, Birds, Venison, Sardines, &c. FRESH OYSTERS having made arrangements to be supplied with Fresh Oysters, direct from Baltimore, I can supply dealers, parties, and families as cheap as any house west of Baltimore."
Colorized image of the Turley Building located at the corner of 2nd (Second) and Chillicothe Streets. The Turley Building was built in 1905 by Lelsie Turley. In 1906 the First National Bank and several other businesses were located there. It held the Checker Store from 1952 through 1973. It was razed in 1992 for the expansion of Shawnee State University.
