Colorized image of the Wilson School which was built in 1927 on Campbell Avenue between Sixth (6th) & Seventh (7th) Streets. It was the first elementary school to have a gymnasium. Closed in 2006, it was razed in 2007.

On January 8, 1929 the school was destroyed by fire, thought to be intentionally set. The U S Grant School, built the next year, replaced the Union Street School.

About 1900 a well-known butcher named Thomas B. Blake purchased the property and developed five store rooms in the block facing Gallia Street at the corner of Lawson.

Eventually it was abandoned and moved to Eighth & Kendall. The building located there was razed shortly after 1905 to allow for the expansion of the N & W Railroad.
