It was completed in 1891, expanded in 1914, closed in 1936, and razed in 1956 for the construction of a five story Montgomery-Ward Department Store.

Black & white image of the Washington Hotel. Built in 1901 at the corner of Second (2nd) and Market Streets, the Washington charged $3.00 per day in 1903 (Evans history of Scioto County.) From 1939 to 1956 it was called the Milner Hotel. In about 1979 the Washington House became part of the Riverview Retirement Center along with the Biggs House.

The Ohio river Steamer Cincinnati broke previous river records in her trip from Pittsburgh to Cincinnati, arriving here today. The boat made the trip in forty hours and averaged 20 miles an hour. The best previous time was a little more than 48 hours. The Cincinnati passed down here Sunday evening at 10 o'clock."

Black and White Photo Image of the Headquarters Cottage on the Roosevelt Game Preserve. On September 26, 1935, the Roosevelt Game Preserve was dedicated as the first public hunting preserve in Ohio. Only squirrels, cottontail rabbits, and foxes were considered legal game.

This building held various businesses and organizations before 1922 when Lewis Furniture moved in. From about 2012 to 2016 the Elite Institute of Cosmetics was located here. Shawnee State University acquired the building in 2017.
