Colorized image of Lincoln Elementary School at the northwest corner of Kinneys Lane & Waller Street. Ten rooms were completed in 1914 and a addition in 1922. It was Portsmouth's first integrated elementary because of overcrowding at Washington School in 1953. The building was closed in 2000 and razed in 2003. The site is now the SOMC Cancer Center.

The C&O Railway Depot, storage buildings, and water tower were actually on the South Portsmouth, Kentucky side of the Ohio River. The depot (right side) was opened in the early 1900's and was still being used by the Chessie System when it was destroyed by fire May 1, 1975.
Tinted image of the Greenwood steamboat on the river. The Greenwood was built by Captain Greene at Parkersburg, WV and completed in Ironton. In October, 1898, on her maiden trip she left Portsmouth and sank at the mouth of the Scioto River when she hit a snag. She was raised and repaired and ran the Cincinnati-Pomeroy-Charleston trades until she sank in 1925 after colliding with the Chris Greene.
Tinted image of the YMCA building at 2829 Gallia Street at the end of Norfolk Street, built in 1906 by the N & W for railroad employees sleeping quarters. It was closed in 1960 and razed in 1968.
Tinted image showing the old Stone Post Office and the First National Bank on the left side of Chillicothe Street. The First National Bank Building was built in 1912 and its size was doubled in 1924. The post office building was completed in 1891, expanded in 1914 and razed in 1956 for the construction of a five story Montgomery-Ward Department Store.
