Tinted image of the Washington Hotel. Built in 1901 at the corner of Second (2nd) and Market Streets, the Washington charged $3.00 per day in 1903 (Evans history of Scioto County.) From 1939 to 1956 it was known as the Milner Hotel. In 1979 the Washington House became part of the Riverview Retirement Center along with the Biggs House.
Colored image of canal, towpath, bridge, and mill. The grist mill was built by Lemuel Moss in 1834. David Gibson built a distillery nearby in 1857. George Davis bought and operated both businesses from about 1860 until shortly before his death in 1894.

Tinted photo image of the Union Street School at the corner of Fourth (4th) and Union Streets. It was completed in 1877 and remodeled in 1910. On January 8, 1929 the school building was destroyed by fire, thought to be intentionally set. The U.S. Grant School built the next year, replaced the Union Street School.

Tinted image of the Excelsior Shoe factory at the corner of Gallia Street and Campbell Avenue. The company began in 1889, moved to Gay and Third (3rd) Streets in 1893 and in 1913 this factory was built. In 1935 Williams Manufacturing purchased the building.
