Colorized image of Burt & Hall Building at the southeast corner of Chillicothe and Third (3rd) Streets. Opened in 1899 as a men's clothing store Burt, Hall & Co., it held various offices and organizations before 1922 when Lewis Furniture moved in. From about 2012 until 2016 the Elite Institute of Cosmetics was in the building. Shawnee State University acquired the building in 2017.
Black & white photo image of the Garden Theater built in 1925 at 718 Chillicothe Street. Roy Rogers appeared live on stage in 1939 (History of Movie Theaters in Portsmouth, Ohio by Bill Glockner) It closed in about 1958 and was torn down for the construction of the Kroger Store.
