The first River Days Festival was held in 1963 and drew a large crowd to Fifth (5th) and Chillicothe Streets. It was such a huge draw that the parade and festivities continued and still happen today, always on Labor Day weekend. Along with the iconic parade, a variety of entertainment events are held. In the early days professional speed boat racing was a big part of the festival.

An estimated twenty thousand people watched the race from both sides of the Ohio River. World Championship amateur boat races were sponsored by the Ohio Valley Boating Club.

The Inn was owned and operated by William Crichton, a native of Scotland and steel mill worker in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The Inn was located on a hill on the west side of route 104 near the N & W Railway passenger station in Rushtown, It closed in 1919.
