It was later remodeled as a school building and ready for classes by January of 1868. In June of 1871 the Board of Education began building a new high school.

A new front was completed in 1959 facing Robinson Avenue giving the building a more modern look. The congregation, established in 1907, has been more recently been known as the Central Church of Christ.
