Black & white photo image of the Hotel Hurth on the corner of Chillicothe and Third (3rd) Streets. Built in 1923 by Adolph Hurth, it had 107 rooms with adjoining baths with hot and cold running water. It also had a barber shop, a pressing room and a restaurant. Since 1982 the building has been used as senior citizen apartments.

Within the new cemetery in Portsmouth in the mid to late 1800's, land was set aside after the War of the Rebellion due to their being no place to bury soldiers, known today as Soldier Circle. On May 30, 1869 the first public service was held in the cemetery, and the Ladies Aid Society purchased the Civil War Union Soldier Monument to be placed there.

Her original name was Sarah Frances Frost but was changed to Julia Marlowe due to better stage appeal. She rose to fame in the late 1800's and early 1900's, even claiming the titles of the "First Lady of The American Stage" and "World's Greatest Shakespearean Actress."
Sepia image of the second court house in Scioto County. Built in 1836 at Court and Sixth (6th) Streets, it was razed in 1927 after the dedication of the new court house.

In 1853 Tracy Park was given to the city of Portsmouth by Francis Campbell in honor of his attorney, Samuel M Tracy. John R T Barnes, the first Scioto County soldier to die in the Civil War, is represented on the 40 foot monument which was dedicated in 1879.
