The Scioto Hominy Company was located at Tenth (10th) and Hutchins Streets.
Wilhelmette Flats was on the northeast corner of Fourth (4th) and Court Streets. John Wilhelm built this building and operated the Wilhelm Opera House on the top floor from 1870 until 1899. It was later made into apartments.
In 1876, the Children's Home was opened in Mound Park on Grant Street. It closed in 1921 when Hillcrest Childrens Home opened in Wheelersburg.
The Ohio Erie Canal towpath ran along side of State Route 104. This view shows Union Mills.
In 1942, the Montgomery Ward building was located on Sixth (6th) Street behind the Masonic Temple Building. It was a parking lot in 1980.
In 1900, the Railroad Y. M. C. A. was located conveniently near the N & W Railroad yards at the end of Norfolk Street. It was razed in about 1980.
The picture of the old Esplanade in 1973 also shows Marting's and the Montgomery Ward Building, later used by a bank, facing the Esplanade.
H. Marting and Sons was established in 1873. At the time of its beginning, it was located at Seventh (7th) and Chillicothe Street. The business moved to 515 Chillicothe Street and closed in 2002.
The Ohio Valley Bank was located at the corner of Chillicothe and Sixth (6th) Streets. It would ultimately become the Portsmouth Banking Company (Elk Building).
From 1878 to 1904, the First National Bank was located at 122 Market Street (not shown)
From 1906 to 1911, the First National Bank was in the Turley Building on Chillicothe Street at the northeast corner of Second (2nd) Street.
In 1912, the first half of the new First National Bank building was completed at the corner of Chillicothe and Gallia Streets. This is the photo on the left. The date "1887" is a typo error. An addition in 1924 doubled the size of the National Bank Building to look as it does today.
Central National Bank was located at 9th (Ninth) Gallia Street, looking east over what would become the Roy Rogers Esplanade.
The Security Savings Bank was located at 28 Gallia Street.
The Security Central National Bank was at 825 Gallia Street. Above the entrance it originally said the "Security Bank". It is now the home of the Southern Ohio Museum and Culture Center on Gallia Steet.
Security Central National Bank moved from Gallia Street to the former Montgomery Ward Department Store building facing the Roy Rogers Esplanade.
The Portsmouth Docking Company was located at 3rd (Third) and Jefferson Streets.
