Philanthropist Andrew Carnegie donated $50,000.00 to Portsmouth to build a free public library. The library opened in 1906 at 1220 Gallia Street, where it is still serving Scioto County.
The Carnegie Building or the Portsmouth Public Library, at 1220 Gallia Street was opened in 1906 thanks to Henry Lorberg and Andrew Carnegie.
