Opened in 1898 at Chillicothe and Third (3rd) Streets, the Anderson Brothers Company first was a home factory shoe store, but later they added dry goods. In 1925 the two top floors were added to the Anderson Brothers Department Store building. From 1935 to 1984 the building was home to Sears, Roebuck & Company. After Sears closed it was remodeled into the Park apartments.

Metal shoe button hook imprinted "Anderson Bros., Portsmouth, Ohio." George W. Anderson operated several shoe, clothing, and dry goods business from 1874 until his death in 1895. His son, William, established the Anderson Department Store at the corner Third (3rd) and Chillicothe Streets from approximately 1900 - 1932. Sears Roebuck Department was later at the site.
