The church banned the German language in 1918 and became the First Evangelical Church. In 1963 the education unit was replaced with a more modern wing which houses a child daycare. The group has been known as the Evangelical United Church of Christ since 1956.

Because Grant had the largest gymnasium in Scioto County it was used by PHS and for county and regional basketball tournaments for over 30 years. It was razed in 2004 for the construction of the new Portsmouth Elementary building.

In 1983 the congregation merged with Bigelow Methodist becoming Wesley United Methodist Church. Location-west corner of Offnere & Gallia Streets. Church building was demolished in 2005.
