Colorized image of the Fourth (4th) Street School. The ten room school building was built in 1838 on the northwest corner of Fourth (4th) and Court Streets. The founder of Portsmouth, Henry Massie, donated the lots for the school to be built. This was the beginning of public education in Portsmouth. In 1930, the Fourth Street School was replaced by the George D. Scudder School.

Black and white photo image of the steamboat the Greenwood on the Ohio River near Portsmouth. The Greenwood was built by Captain Greene at Parkersburg, WV and completed in Ironton. On her maiden trip, October, 1898, she left Portsmouth and sank when she hit a snag at the mouth of the Scioto River. She was raised and repaired and ran the Cincinnati-Pomeroy-Charleston trades until 1925 when she collided with the Chris Greene and sank.
Black and white photo image of the Queen City landing at Portsmouth. This sternwheeler was built in 1897 in Cincinnati for the Pittsburgh and Cincinnati Packet Line. She served the line until 1933 when she became a wharf boat at Pittsburgh, where she sank in 1940.
