  Fred Dogerr's Sons

  Tan, canvas bag with some loose stitching and stains. Front, "Smoke the Buckeye Stogie Manufactured by Fred Doerr's Sons, Portsmouth, Ohio"
  Fred Doerr came from Germany to Portsmouth in 1847 at the age of 14. After learning the tobacco trade, he opened a factory on Front Street in 1850. He died in 1895, and his sons continued.

  Wreck of the ferry steamboat Emily

  Sepia tone postcard of the Ohio River with ice. The ferry steamboat Emily was operated by Captain John F. Davis between Portsmouth, OH and Fullerton, KY. The Ohio River had been frozen for about one week and the ice was breaking up and moving, when on January 5, 1910, the Emily sank. She was insured, raised in July of 1910, and repaired.
