Nelson Wiley Evans was 1st Lieutenant of the 129th O.V.I. Co. G. When the unit was mustered out he was appointed Adjutant of the 173rd O.V.I. He fought in many battles and at war's end went into law. He wrote "A History of Scioto County, Ohio Together with a Pioneer Record of Southern Ohio" 1903
