Black and white image of the Scioto River Bridge. This was the fifth (5th) bridge built over the Scioto River. It was a wood floor pier bridge to replace the suspension bridge that fell in 1884 killing two children. This bridge washed out in the 1913 flood with no fatalities.

Colorized image of Union Mills. The grist mill was built by Lemuel Moss in 1834. David Gibson built a distillery nearby in 1857. George Davis bought and operated both businesses from about 1860 until shortly before his death in 1894.
Colorized image of the Women's Club House at the north-west corner of Fifth (5th) & Court Streets. In 1878 the Portsmouth Board of Education gave this building for use as the first public library, also known as the "Wharton Library." The new Carnegie Library on Gallia Street opened in 1906. City directories from 1908 - 1913 list the Portsmouth Federation of Women's Clubs at 501 Court Street. Boy Scouts used this building in the early 1920's. From 1928 to 1955 the Portsmouth City Health Department was located here. The building was razed in about 1960.
Colorized image of a small pond at the Kiwanis Girl Scout Camp. The waterway has full trees hanging over it as well as being surrounded by grass. This Girl Scout Camp was constructed by the Kiwanis Club and was located on Tremper's Farm on Pond Creek in West Portsmouth, Ohio. The camp opened on July 2, 1923 to excited Girl Scouts all over the county.
